Wilson Medical Center recently engaged with STEM program from Wilson County Public Schools and The Greenfield School for the purpose of naming the hospital’s surgical robot. Hospital staff finalized “Surgio” as the name of the da Vinci xi robot during 2025 Hospital Week.

“Our da Vinci xi surgical robot has been at our facility for nearly 3 years and has assisted surgeons perform approximately 200 surgeries,” Wilson Medical Center CEO Lindy White said. “This collaboration with area students serves as a reminder to our community that high-quality surgical options are available to the residents of Wilson and surrounding communities.”

Surgio was chosen as the name of the da Vinci xi robot due to its playful nod to the word “Surgery.” Wilson Medical Center remains committed to opening its doors to area students and exposing them to careers in healthcare.

The first da Vinci robotic surgery at Wilson Medical Center was performed in December 2022 by Dr. Jordan Shealy, general surgeon. The robotic surgery allows physicians including Dr. George Isaacs, to perform precise and complex surgery through very small surgical incisions, which can mean shorter recovery times and hospital stays for patients.
