Resident thankful for local Oncology treatment
August 21, 2025
Dan Jackson sees every day as a blessing.
His positive outlook is quite admirable, considering he has completed 80 treatments at Wilson Radiation Oncology during the past 10 months for prostate cancer and head and neck cancer.
Dan recently was able to ring the bell at Wilson Radiation Oncology, signifying the end of his treatment process.
“I’m very thankful,” Dan said. “I feel good about what they’ve done. They’ve helped keep me around longer than I expected.”
For Dan, 63, the options for treatment were plentiful. He even had a family member who encouraged him to seek treatment in Durham. Dan decided to stay home.
As a resident of Wilson County, where he lives with his wife, Geri, Dan sought treatment at Wilson Radiation Oncology, and he said he was pleased with the staff led by Dr. Margaret Metts and Dr. Keith Lerro.
“I was satisfied, and I trusted them as people,” Dan said. “They were great. I can’t see people wanting to take that ride to Durham or Chapel Hill when they have the option to stay here. I trusted Dr. Metts. She’s smart and knows what she’s doing. I trusted the plan she had set up for me. We loved them – all of them were great.”
Dan, who is retired, is looking forward to Geri joining him soon. She will retire this fall, and the couple plan to continue their hobbies: Yard work, planting their year garden, and riding on their Harley-Davidson. The two have four children, 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
“We’re doing OK,” Dan said. “The Lord is on our side.”
