The People-First Agenda: Shaping the Future of Wilson Medical Center

July 09, 2026
By Jason L. Kimbrell, Chief Executive Officer

Every day within the walls of Wilson Medical Center, life unfolds in its rawest, most beautiful, and most challenging moments. We are there to hold a hand during a patient’s lowest point and to celebrate life’s greatest joys, including the miracle of welcoming a newborn into the world. Our team serves as advocates for patients who feel alone, prays with those searching for hope, and shows love to strangers as if they were family. This profound privilege is the heartbeat of who we are.

Over the past month, since I had the honor of joining Wilson Medical Center as Chief Executive Officer, I have been asked one question more than any other: “What is your number one priority?”

The answer is remarkably simple: Our priority is our people.

Cultivating a Culture of Belonging
Excellent healthcare cannot exist without a deeply rooted culture of belonging. To achieve this, I am working tirelessly to ensure that every single colleague and physician on our team feels valued, supported, and heard.

It is vital that our team members know their daily dedication is worthwhile and that they are truly making a difference. In my short time here, I have witnessed firsthand powerful examples of our colleagues displaying deeply empathetic care. I have watched our staff quite literally put themselves in others' shoes, meeting patients with compassion and dignity when they need it most. We have truly great people here.

Winning the Talent War Through Culture
To maintain this standard of excellence, we must be intentional about recruiting and retaining top-tier healthcare talent. We fully recognize that we operate in a highly competitive wage environment. Ensuring our compensation packages remain competitive is a baseline requirement, but true organizational excellence requires something deeper.

We don't just want to hire colleagues for a season; our goal is to hire professionals who choose to stay here until they retire. Achieving that level of long-term retention has everything to do with the environment we build. People stay where they are valued, where they feel supported, and where they are profoundly proud of the team they stand alongside every day. Culture is our ultimate recruitment strategy.

Why "People" is Our Best Strategy
The second most frequent question I hear looks toward the horizon: “What are the leading strategies for Wilson Medical Center going into the future?”

My answer remains exactly the same: People.

When a healthcare team is united, empowered, and cared for, innovation follows naturally. Our team of colleagues and physicians regularly care for this community as if it were their own family. By focusing our strategy on supporting them, we ensure that our patients receive the high-caliber, cutting-edge care they deserve, right here at home.

The Power of Our Stories
Because of the incredible dedication I see every day, you can expect to hear a lot more storytelling coming from Wilson Medical Center in the months and years ahead.

I believe deeply in the power of storytelling. Our community deserves to hear about the remarkable work our people are doing both inside the hospital and throughout the neighborhoods we serve. We will begin sharing the powerful stories of how our team shows up for those who walk through our doors hungry, abused, or neglected, offering them a pathway to hope and healing. Wilson Medical Center is not a perfect hospital; no hospital or person is. But Wilson Medical Center is community.

Looking Ahead
The future of Wilson Medical Center is bright. The days ahead will bring exciting, visible evidence of progress toward a shared goal: ensuring your community hospital is the regional hospital of choice the place where people want to work, where physicians want to practice medicine, and where patients choose to receive care.

This transformation is not a distant aspiration; it begins now. We are actively moving beyond a traditional model of reactive care to build a proactive, wellness-focused ecosystem. Under the banner of our community-wide wellness initiatives, we are looking outward—partnering with local families, civic leaders, and organizations to invest in foundational health, early childhood development, and long-term preventative care.

By building an environment where top-tier professionals want to plant deep roots and spend their entire careers, we are securing the ultimate foundation for innovative clinical expansion. As we strengthen our culture from within and deepen our partnerships across the county, you will see a hospital that does not just treat illness, but actively champions the vitality, hope, and healing of every neighbor we serve.
